My plane was delayed for 3 hours, so I didnt arrive in Zurich until 11am. Unfortunately, I chose to follow the directions the hostel had put on their website, thus I failed to get off at the main station to transfer to the correct train....and ended up in Auger. Unfortunately, this was like meaning to go to Whiteoaks mall and ending up in Kitchener instead. Twenty swiss francs, a kind conductor, and two hours later, I arrived bak in Zurich, and made my way to the hostel. Again I got lost, though not for long, it felt like ages because of the 30 degree weather and my 30 pound knapsack. I arrived at my hostel 4 hours after I got off the plane.
Eventually, I made my way to the downtown area. Zurich is home to the largest clock face in Europe, but the churches are not among the prettiest. They are mostly very plain, which is a given granted Zurich was a central player in the Protestant Reformation. The loveliest part of Zurich is Lake Zurich, and the river which cuts across the downtown area. However, much of Zurich is a cosmopolitan shopping and banking district, and the prices of the restaurants match the high society atmosphere of the place. One restaurant wanted over 20 swiss francs for a plain old hamburger. Even the grocery store was selling raspberries for 6 francs(in munich they sell for 1 euro)! My cheap heart broke at the prices, and I ended up eating $11 chicken nuggets at McDonalds...
